Fighting Forest Crime: The Lacey Act and Beyond

In 2008, the United States amended the century-old Lacey Act to prohibit commerce in illegally sourced plants, including wood products. It is now a crime to import, trade, transport or buy plants or trees that have been taken in violation of foreign law. The U.S. Lacey Act has been a trailblazer, inspiring other countries to implement laws against illegal timber imports.
