Join Us in Thanking HFC-free Supermarkets and Calling for Climate Action

Despite the ongoing climate crisis, supermarkets across the United States continue to use and leak super pollutants that threaten our climate. These pollutants are gases called hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) used in refrigeration – and the average supermarket leaks a quarter of them each year, equivalent to emissions of more than 300 cars!

We’re teaming up with our friends at Green America to thank the supermarkets that are acting on the climate crisis, at a time when supermarkets have been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 health crisis and their brave workers are providing critical services.

Consumers can now use our interactive climate-friendly supermarkets map, searchable by zip code, to click on an HFC-free store near them and send a letter thanking them for being climate-friendly and urging them to build on this momentum by continuing to reduce their HFC footprint. If no HFC-free store exists nearby, one can also send a letter expressing the need for HFC-free stores in their community.

By bringing more attention to this critical issue, we can do our part in ensuring a climate-friendly recovery from the COVID-19 health crisis.
