In 2018 the Environmental Investigation Agency continued to confront the greatest environmental threats facing the world today. The EIA team pursued, documented and exposed the activities of syndicates that threaten endangered species, damage the climate and ozone layer, and drive the trade in timber stolen from the world’s most important remaining forests.

For four years, EIA has investigated the logging sector in the Congo and Gabon, countries that together account for approximately 60 percent of the total area under forest management in the Congo Basin. EIA’s findings reveal that one of the largest and most influential Chinese timber companies in Africa, the “Dejia Group,” has built its business model on bribery and crime.

Washington DC - EIA recibe con beneplácito la medida tomada por el Representante de Comercio de los Estados Unidos (USTR) para bloquear las importaciones de madera a la empresa peruana Inversiones La Oroza durante los próximos tres años. Esta medida se tomó a raíz de un proceso de verificación realizado el año pasado, al amparo del Anexo Forestal del Acuerdo de Promoción Comercial entre los Estados Unidos y el Perú, que encontró que una gran parte de un embarque de Inversiones La Oroza era ilegal.
